Windows Update for the Enterprise
Tue, Aug 24, 2004Most people have used Microsoft's Windows Update service. What many administrators don't know is that you can easily manage the updating of large numbers of microsoft based machines using the same system. Microsoft provides, free of charge, the Software Update Service which allows an administrator to approve what updates they would like to be deployed. This of course requires the clients to check with that SUS server for updates, and that can be forced through group policy. Isn't active directory wonderfull?
Coming soon to a server near you is the new WUS or Windows Update Service, which promises a more powerfull update system.
