it lives!
Wed, Jan 26, 2005I'm finally posting, after a fairly long haiatus. That problem stemmed from some lost posts due to session timeouts, which left me rather frustrated. It's amazing how frustrating loosing an hours worth of writing can be in this setting. Regardless, we shall soldier on.
In addition to returning to active blogging I've started fixing up various parts of my site. From stem to stern things are being "upgraded", which generally translates to breaking large critical services and then spending the hours required to fix them. There are some things im hesitating to upgrade, to be specific the network initialization script for gentoo. The only interface using the default script is loopback. This is due to my etherchannel/bonding setup, which is not intrinsically supported. Editing the script and submitting a patch is on my todo list, but it's pretty low down the list. Anyhow, so far none of my upgrades has run into any major complications (major == taking more than an hour to fix), yet.
The next major item on my todo hitlist, is replacing my two gateway machines with one or a set of linksys 54g routers (which will run linux). Currently there are two gateways to provide NAT/routing for my two internet pipes (Cable/Buisness DSL). You may wonder why I have two pipes, well the answer is fairly simple: Static IP addresses are prohibitivly expensive from the local cable company, and DSL isn't quite as speedy as residential cable in my area. Currently there are two machines because I couldn't think of a reasonably easy way to setup the routing for those two pipes through one box.
