ipod++
Tue, Mar 29, 2005I'm loving my new ipod. It's my baby, it goes damned near everywhere with me. Heck, between it and my phone i don't need a pda. I don't plan on getting one of those pda phones either, their too clunky for my tastes. After a few weeks of having it I've only come up with one gripe, which isn't entirely directed at the ipod itself. I have a Griffin iTrip, which I can't recomend enough, though there is one issue. The iTrip itself it programmed through audio played by the ipod. So you have a slew of songs for station selection. Enter shuffle songs mode, and you can see how problems would arise. Shuffle songs does not allow you to exclude songs or groups of songs. I personally don't want suffle playing my podcasts, It puts a kink into a nice road trip to have music interrupted by the slashdot review. Currently I use smart playlists to work around the issue, but those don't start on random tracks initially. I find myself always starting with the same tracks, which is a bit boring. It's a small gripe, I certainly understand that, but my ipod is a little piece of sanity blocking out the loud and chaotic world so I can get things done; and I would love to have it be able to operate well without my intervention.
On a mac side note, I've been looking at tiger development, it rocks. Though the core graphics api holes used by desktop manager are broken (probably intentionally), so no virtual desktops for a bit.
<Update> Desktop manager now supports tiger. Regarding ipods I have found that wiggling the headphone jack will cause it to pause. While that's pretty nifty, it can be quite annoying when a bump in the road or a jostle in my pocket causes it to pause.</Update>
