comment spam
Wed, Jan 18, 2006I have my server back up for one day. One whole day, and what do I find when I check my email. Messages informing me that there were many comments. Many. Comments. Now that seems a bit odd, as comments are generally few and far between. After actually reading some of the messages they all seem to have the same text and a link. Excellent. The spammers have found me, after one day of uptime.
I've added akismet support along with regular expression based comment checking and dnsbl support (all existing blojsom plugins). Which seems to have solved the problem. I seemed to be getting about 20-30 comments/hour.
While discussing my spam problem with some co-workers, one of them mentioned tarpitting as an option. If your not familiar with the concept, when someone connects to your computer they have to wait and with some effort you can make them wait longer. I may try to come up with a plugin for blojsom that brings that kind of functionality to play. If I can't attack them directly, I can at least slow them down somewhat...
